Green National Initiative with the slogan of "Each Iranian Should Plant a Tree" is launched by FRWO in Iran.
According to FRWO’s website, Maximum participation of people and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) as a manifestation of national solidarity and harmony aimed at creating more green space, developing vegetation cover, promoting natural resources' culture and expanding pathways to self-sufficiency is one the goals pursued in the green national initiative in Iran.
In 2011, according to Article 15 of the Law on Increasing Productivity based on the Supreme Leader's order, FRWO was obliged to increase the country's per capita forest from 1,700 square meters to 2,500 square meters.
FRWO has planted 150 million saplings in the country so far as part of this initiative.
Based on this report, Supreme Leader plants tree symbolically on Arbor Day to mark the vital importance of tree planting annually.
In one of his statements on Arbor Day in 2014, after planting a sapling, Supreme Leader reiterated: "I ask the people to respect trees and attach great significance to the environment. The slogan, "Each Iranian Should Plant a Tree" which is common among the people is a good slogan. The people should do their best to plant more trees on such days. Both the people and officials in particular should prevent the hands which try to destroy the environment. They should not allow our forests, rangelands and the environment in cities and suburban areas to be destroyed".
Arbor Day known as "National Tree Planting Day" in Iran is the fifteenth day of month of Esfand, which usually corresponds with March 5. This day is also the first day of the "Natural Resources Week (05-11 March)" in Iran. This is the time when the saplings of all kinds are distributed among people to encourage them to plant and care for trees and nature. They are also taught how to plant trees. Every year, just before the Iranian New Year, millions of Iranians plant trees to mark the tree-planting day in Natural Resources Week and hail the coming of spring.
